Not getting an Xbone? What about GT6?

Post by nubrocket on Tue Nov 12, 2013 10:48 pm

I wasn't thinking about GT6 until I read this article. How cool is that?

HOLY shtako!!!!! That is awesome! It looks like I am going to have to "borrow" my sister's smart phone for a while to make up some courses around the area where I live Very Happy

Edit: any idea why the forum automatically changed the wording in my post to make me sound like a sensitive douchebag?

I dunno - as soon as I posted it, it was immediately edited and it removed the all caps. Just something I thought was odd...

Just to update this, anyone picking up GT6?  I've read some decent reviews, and will likely be getting a PS3 sometime in the near future.

I picked it up and am really liking it.  It lacks the "kick your teeth in" rush of Forza 5, and of course it doesn't look AS amazing, but the driving is fun.

It's also a bit of a bitter reminder of just how much FM5 cut from their released product.  GT6 has an endless ocean of cars and tracks which do a good job of reminding a FM5 player that "ooh yeah, that was in FM4!  I remember that...and I miss that."

Ultimately I agree with Insidge Gaming Daily's review.  I also agreed with what they said about FM5, actually.  I like those guys.

They don't talk about the GT Vision thing, which is new, and kind of neat.  It seems that the GT folks has an arrangement with a number of car manufacturers to design a concept car just for the game.

Mercedes has just released their's and it's gorgeous.

Lastly, and most selfishly, I'd like some other folks to pick it up so the leaderboards aren't just me. Sad  My PSN tag is the same as on XBL, 'nubrocket'.

So you can drive on the moon in GT6.  It's a special mission.  Isn't that ridiculous?

I hope they have the lunar rover in that game then - that would be cool

Side note: The past few times I tried to quote somebody, it only let me write in the quote and I am not sure why....

You can and they do.

I also really like the coffee breaks.  I kinda hate to say it but this game is really really good.

I unlocked the lunar missions today and then I took this photo.

It's silly but it's really fun.

Is the handling anything like GT5? Even though I did become suddenly hit with nostalgia, the actual controls and handling really disappointed me in comparison to FM4.

I would say that it is still pretty similar to GT5, yeah, but I hate to be the guy telling you that because I didn't play a whole lot of 5 (and most of what I did was with my wheel).

Re: Not getting an Xbone? What about GT6?

Ugh, Low, of course you would ask that.

Full disclosure:  I am a hyper greedy American geek who wants ALL the new stuff so I have trouble choosing between things.  I am also kind of flaky when it comes to games -- the time I've spent playing Forza in my lifetime is a total anomaly.

Short answer: GT6

TLDR; Forza 5 delivers an experience that looks amazing and feels like your balls are sinking into your feet.  Gran Turismo 6 delivers more of what FM4 felt like, in that it's a huge world to play in with tons of content to learn with.  Unlike GT5, however, they seem to have really had fun with GT6 and everything is more pleasant, enjoyable, and fun.

Nub's longwinded nonsense...

If you already own a PS3 then the answer is easily GT6.  The amount of game you get for $60 is simply stupid.  There are microtransactions hiding in there but there is no "VIP" or "Season Pass" nonsense (at least not yet).  There are so many cars and the track list matches, if not exceeds, fm4.  There are also regular events, including the just released "drive the 2014 BMW M4 before the public can buy it" event, and the GT Vision stuff which I'm excited to watch unfold.

It also accomplished something new, in that I thought GT5 was kind of boring but when I get home it's GT6, and not FM5, that I am dying to play.  Oh, and there's also the track creator with the GPS app coming.  The shit doesn't stop with this game.

If you don't have a PS3 then the answer is harder, but GT6 is still the better value by far (and your wheel will work with it!).  What I struggle with though is that the Xbone is SUCH A GREAT CONSOLE.  The voice commands and game dvr are just...I don't know.  It all feels revolutionary and truly like an entirely new generation of gaming hardware.  That said, to pick up a Xbone and go whole hog with Forza (all the dlc) you're going to be dropping about $690.  That's...a really big deal.  If you're willing to do it though, then do it!  Do it now!

I also feel like GT6 is a more consistent and realistic simulator, but then again, who am I to say that?  I haven't driven any of these cars in real life nor am I a skilled motorsport athlete.  I just have doubts about Forza when the Corvette ZR1 was a unwieldy monster in FM4 but, in FM5, it's an amazing and enjoyable car to drive.  Maybe it's the same and I've just gotten better?  I find that unlikely.  So...why do I find them so different?

Although I question FM5's realism, I have to admit complete adoration for their attention to other details.  It's simply one of the most beautiful games I've ever played.  I buy new cars just to drive them from cockpit view -- it's so stunning you can almost smell the leather in some of these cars.  I also feel like they've paid attention to cabin quality -- I swear some of the cars, like the BMWs and Audis, have quieter cabins.  You can hear the difference.  Hell, you can FEEL the difference.  It's remarkable.

In GT6 they have good cockipit views as well, but the leather doesn't look polished and the gauges don't have the same alluring glow that Forza gives you.  They again get the nod for realism, though, at least with the Corvette I drove.  I've heard about the HUD that Corvettes have but I've never seen it.  It's there in GT6 and it's really really cool.

Lastly, and this is just FM5 praise, you HAVE to play it.  You just have to.  That Lotus E21 is such an amazing experience to drive.  The sounds, the speed, the feel...Turn10 NAILED the adrenaline rush with moments like that.  I guess my problem is that I'm not sure what to do after I've worn out that rush and am looking for more game to play.

So yeah, I don't know.  I am anxious to see where FM5 is in 6 months after we've gotten more cars and (hopefully) more tracks.  More content and more events can easily tip me back fully into the Forza camp.  For now I'll be dabbling in both but with more time spent in GT6.

Fear - that sucks.  I was able to take my first 360 apart and do some re-engineering to get it to work again, but died for good a couple months later.  Are you replacing it?

Well it is a month or two off from release date so its pretty old and I bought it from a guy off craigslist about 2 1/2 years ago I think. I did think about reballing as one day it did go off on me while playing COD:MW   CD drive went out too had to pull that out and open it up and now it jams all the time. I applied new thermal grease too as the original stuff was all crusty. Also tried shimming, that worked for a while. I think PC might be the way to go as the only things appealing to me is battlefield, forza, and maybe GTA V, I don't care for TV or shows either which seems to be a huge thing in the xbox one.

My guilty love-affair with this game continues.

They continue to pour new content on us with one of the latest being the addition of Mario Andretti's 1948 Hudson.  I admit that I never knew this car existed before the event was added, but holy shit, this car is A BLAST.  I'm only a few ms away from the gold so that's what I'll be doing over Christmas.

So I guess y'all don't have PS3s?  This game continues to take up my time, the seasonal events just keep coming and they're fun.

I'm still hopeful, but not sure how soon I'll be looking at a PS3 (immediately followed by GT6).  Plan on going back to school this summer, so trying to get a feel on what that's going to do to the budget...  have to be responsible and crap and spend no money right now.  Being an adult sucks sometimes.
