Movie Review Thread

Should this be 'sticky'?

Have seen a couple things lately...

Total Recall (the remake) actually isn't bad. A) Kate Beckinsale B) Jessica Biel ...which combined kind of makes it not a tough to take 2 hours. It's true to the original, but changed just enough to make me interested to see what happened next.

The Hunger Games - picked this up on Xbox last night, wife wanted to see it...and was pleasantly surprised. Had no desire to see it when it was in theaters...I didn't know what the premise was. Figured given the excitement of teenage girls over teh movie, it prolly wasn't anything I would be into, but it's a decent story. It's pretty much Battle Royale and The Running Man getting it on, Hollywood taking out the really nasty parts, packaging it nicely into a silk lined box, and *poof*...Hunger Games.

Love the Beast- Eric Bana....amazing movie, and as car lovers here, you all have an obligation to try to catch this.

This is a GREAT idea swviper!

I'll be watching Hunger Games this week.... I've also grabbed the book trilogy on Kindle!

Love the Beast was AWESOME! Must watch for car nuts!

Glad to hear Total Recall was good... I used to love the original (didn't stand up to time very well), and I am worried the new one will suck...

On another note... Have you seen Judge Dredd is being remade or redone?

I'm not a fan of the 'remake' thing Hollywood is doing, but Recall was pretty good...and yeah, you are right, the original does not stand up well, this new one does, and will.

I have not heard about Judge Dredd...but if done right, that could be awesome too...I didn't really like the Stallone one, but I loved the comic. Going to go Google it now.

Robocop is being redone as well...which I'm not sure if it needs to be, but the cast is pretty rich...so who knows.

Robocop should be left alone... The Original holds up as a SciFi classic...!

As usual, you will be sorely disappointed with the movie after the book. Book was pretty easy reading. Movie was meh.

Haven't seen any movies as of late. Gotta wait until it's made the rounds digitally.

Enjoyed Cleanskin. And another mindless one is Lockout. I think that's the title. It's got Guy Pearce in it.

Total recall... outdated? Blasphemy! Just because they didn't rely on cgi for every special effect doesn't mean it's outdated!

Robocop is an all time fave, too. I made a Rekall corporate car livery, and one day I'm going to have enough time to design a corporate car for OCP, the evil corporation in robocop.

Speaking of remakes, I rented 21 jump street, and I thought it was damn funny,

I'm pretty sure The Hunger Games is a ripoff of The Running Man

I haven't watched or read anything relating to hunger games but it sounds to me like a Battle Royale type movie. Although I've never seen The Running Man, it may be a ripoff since it came before both movies

Not really a rip-off of The Running Man. In The Running Man, the participants in the games are criminals, and it's a game show. In The Hunger Games, it's a trilogy of stories chronicling a fictional view of how society might rebuild itself after a fall...

I agree the movies feel similar, but the premises are different.

Hunger Games was pretty decent I thought.

Went and saw Hotel Transylvania last weekend...if you have kids, it's definitely a good film to take them to and have a couple of laughs.

For thos of you who have seen "Super Size Me" by Mogan Spurloc, you have got to see "Fat Head" which is a 100% independent followup to Spurloc's film...

Also.... Did anyone catch "Fifth Gear" or "Sons of Guns" last night?

I hope they don't show any of the actual stuff that happened in transylvania, that would be, to say the least, extremely gruesome..... especially for a cartoon movie

Last movie I saw was Iron man 3. That was pretty good, not sure I like what they did with the story line.

I wish that Jim Norton's "Grocery Man" was an actual movie, it would have been hilarious

I enjoyed reading the Hunger Games series, and finally watched it last weekend with the wife, during the club race of course :-( (post continued, filters don't like what else I have to say, so can't add it)

I hate Jennifer Lawrence as the main character, though. She's older and much softer than Katniss should be. Tough? Nearly starving? Um, fail.

On a more positive and slightly off-topic note, I've been reading the Game of Thrones series and just started watching the show as well. Books are great (if you like medieval stuff), and think the show may be just as good. Pretty rare feat.

I love the show. I look forward to Sunday all week. I will read the books someday but for now I'd rather they not ruin what I have going on.

I have a big enough gap between where I'm at in the books (midway through 3) and the show (early season 1) that I can't tell how exactly how much stuff they're leaving out. Seems they are spot on so far though, and the casting is damn well done. Maybe the first time ever that when a character didn't look like I pictured them, I had to say "Ohhh, yep, they're right. That's what Sansa is supposed to look like, no wonder everyone thinks she's hot."

Fun fact: The actress that plays Sansa actually adopted (in real life) the dog that plays her direwolf on the series. I had to look her up to see how much of a perv I am for thinking she's hot :-)

Edit - Had to include a picture are well, check out the look on the face of the kid in the middle. "Hey, can you guys keep taking pictures please, like a hundred or so, I don't mind."

on a somewhat unrelated note, I think that Teller should play Watson from Sherlock Holmes... not quite sure why I always pictured him as that character when I read the books though...
