Does anyone here root their phones?

So I got myself a Galaxy s3 last month and I don't feel like waiting for the official jelly bean update. That is, if there's even going to be an update for the I535 model. Anyone here want to root or has rooted their phone before? What are the Pros and cons?

When I am able to upgrade my phone I will be going to Android.

I do plan on rooting whichever phone I get.

Pro's: you have more comtrol of the phone. More customizable. Not sure what else.

Con's: You may void the warranty. This depends on the phone. You may brick it. Not
much else that I can think of.

I have an S3 as well Low, but I have not had the time to root mine yet... I also have a Galaxy Tab 2 7", and I have not rooted it either... I will root my tablet, but I probably wont do it to my phone (company issue)...

BTW Marm... Samasung Galaxy SIII is the best one right now... Stay away from the Motorola phones....

I'm hanging on Lou. Upgrade doesn't happen until November.

Waiting to see who's got the next Nexus. Then we'll run a comarison. what sucks about the S3 here is that we get the Qualcomm dual core 1.4 as opposed to the quad core 1.5 (also made by Qualcomm no?).

At this point, the phone has to either have 64G or be expandable. So we'll see what happens this winter.

I haven't rooted my tablet yet (Asus Transformer Prime TF-201). Not sure if I want to. Thing works well.

I have a Transformer prime as well, and I have not rooted it either...it really has never done anything that has made me go "...if only..." It just does everytyhing I want it to already. Actually, the video streaming leaves a bit to be desired, but that's not a 'deal breaker' for what I do with it mostly.

Yeah... One of the reasons why I havn't rooted my Galaxy Tab 2 is because Samsung actually does very little in the way of "customizing" to the OS. Motorola does the most and they usually jack the shit up and REMOVE functionality to force you to use their inferior CRAP!!

BTW, the Galaxy Tab 2 7" and the Galaxy S3 both can take up to 32GB micro SD. the S3 has the slot right next to the SIM slot, but the Tab 2 has an external slot for easy swapping...

I have 6Gb on board with the Tab, but it's more than enough combined with the card (have several 32GB cards already)

the S3 has 16GB on board and I have a smaller 2gb card in it, but I will be adding a 32GB "soon"...

I like the nexus, but I opted for the tab due to the micro SD card slot AND the IR blaster... There is an app called Peel that is a universal remote and I gotta say it ROCKS....

Mandy surprised me with mine right before vacation. She got me the 32g (for the same price as the 16 somehow) and I swapped in the 16g card from my droid x. I was more than happy with my x but the camera wouldn't take good pictures and with my kids, that's a must.The only complaint I have about the s3 is the keyboard. It is horrendous! I used Swype for 2 years but this T9 program was designed by a toddler. Other than that its a fun phone. I still can't find any definite answer if the I535 s 3 will get jelly bean. Heard its even better than what's on it now.

Why don't you get the swype keyboard then?

Is that all that's wrong with moto? Their bloatware? Not that I'm considering them. My only issue with Samsung is how quickly it seems that they stop supporting their phones.

Granted if it's the best at the time of purchase, I will just have to root the phone.

My issue is I need memory. I've got 24 gigs of music and I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend time swapping music all the time. My iPhone 4 is 32g and it's damn near full. That's why the next phone is going to be expandable or have 64g.

Is that the only thing wrong? Mostly, but there are some features that don't seem to be there, like features for the lock screen and some more in-depth system settings/tools... I have had a couple of friends where the screens started shorting out... Which ever phone you get, please get the insurance on it...

If you are going to root your phone anyway, go for the one that feels the best... The Galaxy S3 is BIG. Much larger than the Moto. But the screen is much nicer. I like the shape of the S3 better than the Moto. The S3 doesn't have that silly Moto bump on the back and tapers as it gets to the edge. Fits VERY well in my pocket...

Add and Otter Box to the S3 and it's frigging enormous. I took my otterbox off and put a silicon case back on it with a screen shield... works well... The Moto has some good belt clip cases that are more in line with iPhone size.

I'm in no rush at this point. Just gonna wait. I've got another month until I'm eligible for the upgrade. So I can hold off. And if I can hold off a few more months, just wait for the S4 to come out and I'll be fine.

I'm ok with a big phone. I'm commuting staring at my tablet anyways. I'm just excited about leaving the iOS environment. Can't stand it. Can't wait to leave it. Just wishing they'd announce the new Nexus now. And then again, I'm hoping my carrier carries the new Nexus. Otherwise it's full price which I can't afford.

I'm just asking about Moto. From other forums, it seems those that have it love it. But I've owned 2 moto's in my lifetime. The Startac and some other POS. Startac was a great phone. Other than that, haven't looked much into it. I like what the HTC One X + has on paper. Gonna have to give it a test drive as I'm unsure about HTC's UI.

You really cannot go wrong with any of the upper end Droid phones! good luck!

I am so glad to be away from iOS... I don't miss it at all except the overall simplicity, but other than that, I'm better off with the Driod!...

Lou is there anyway to fit the words to screen on the s 3? On my x I would just doubletap and it would zoom in and make the entire article fit in my screen. The s 3 has me scrolling back and forth back and forth.

it's a pinch zoom thing like the iPhone, but it does seem to default to a zoom that requires scrolling... I'll look into it a little later for ya!

So based on my upgrade timeline, and from what I've seen, I am gonna get the Galaxy Note 2 at the end of this month.

That means I no longer have to carry my tablet with me.
