Hurricane Sandy! Empty Hurricane Sandy!

Post by Red Sniper 213 Mon Oct 29, 2012 12:02 pm

This thing is insane right now. We have 60 mph winds right now in Salem. And the whole east coast cancelled school. I also heard somewhere that NYC is being evacuated? Not sure though.

NYC is not being evacuated, but they are expecting flooding in Queens, Bronx and Lower Manhattan... With all of the focus on NYC, not sure what the impact will be on Long Island... I do know that the NJ coast is going to get HAMMERED! I still have plenty of family in NJ, and my Aunt was boarding up here beach house in Belmar this weekend... It's not gonna be pretty...

I wonder how this will affect the election next week?

The low lying areas of new york are being evacuated. The tiny little islands off the main island are getting evacuated. Also the areas lou mentioned are being evacuated.

My school lies in the low lying area and it's right by the water...we even have our own little section of beach, I wonder what that'll look like after Sandy passes through.

As for me, I'm right next to a little inlet of water which may flood, so fingers crossed it won't be too bad. The storm will really hit us tonight around 8pm so I'll keep you guys updated if I end up having to evacuate my house.

I heard about it on howard and opie & anthony. I think they were expecting it to hit at 2:00 a.m. and up until I got to school at 8:00 a.m. eastern time, it still hadn't hit. They were talking about these terrible attempts to hype up "frankenstorm" - one news station put a life guard tower in the water and the winds were at most blowing 15 mph, on another they had a reporter in a kayak in the water and they zoomed in really far to make it look like she was close to shore even though she was about 50 or 60 feet out and some people walked right in front of the camera (their shoes were completely dry by the way).

Just out of curiosity, is the Stig good at driving boats too?

One of the supervisors at work showed me a picture his friend had taken just a while ago. He said they are going down the highway which is already flooded up toward the window sill on her door. The picture she took is looking out her driver side window and there is literally a shark swimming next to her. I was in awe.

It isn't so bad now. The winds died down (somewhat) and the rain stopped. Don't have school tomorrow. I don't know if it is going to be worse tomorrow or what.

Nah Marm I live in an area of brooklyn thats right next to water. And we have the basement floor of a 3 family apartment. So here's the status update.

Water came up from the basin LIGHTNING quick. I was packing away the xbox and all my sons belongings and bringing them up to my mom and sister room which is higher up than my living room, before the water came in. And when my brother told me water was coming into the basement we rushed to get the mattresses and whatever we could upstairs.

By 830, my family had moved whatever bags of clothes and laptops and phones we could bring up. Since my house is in the lower floor, my basement was flooded to the ceiling and the house was flooded chest deep.

We're fine though we're just working on pumping the water out of the house. I'll be out of commission for a few. Thanks for the concern guys!

Lou, hope your family in Jersey is fine, Jersey got hit really hard.

My uncle's restaurant was in Brooklyn. That was fun. Taking orders.
"Can I get your address?"
"18-595 Padegate Lane"
"Sorry, pad-a-what?"
"You fuckin' kiddin' me?"
And on it went.

Glad to hear your xbox was saved.

Glad to hear you're alright. If just a little wet.

Ok, so 250+ people are still without power in my town and this is why we still don't have school. My school district NEVER closes school. On Sunday, every school on the east coast was cancelled. We were the literal last ones to cancel. Same thing with yesterday too. Last ones. We are the most hard ass, stubborn district when it comes to school closings.
