my xbox account...

I got a message from Xbox Live today telling me to add security proofs to my account, and just like my windows live account, I couldn't access it because the email I had it under was shut down (that and a mix of live telling me they thought somebody else was accessing my account). I think I remember it saying something about me not being allowed to access Xbox Live if I didn't add them... so I guess if something goes wrong, I will have to create another account. I am currently waiting for an email they are sending me with an updated password so I can get into my account (Its probably bad that I couldn't remember the answer to my security question, but I put in the credit card info that was linked to my account. Hopefully that will be enough to recover it) and I will immediately change the email address if I get it... I'm hoping it works

Good luck! This stuff is nerve wracking for sure. If it makes you feel better I got the same XBL message about adding proofs. I think it was a mass-mail and not a situation of them singling you out.

ok this makes me feel much better actually. I don't think they have ever acted upon these "mass warnings," so I hopefully won't be locked out of my xbox live account tongue

I think I may have figured out how to get it back. I found this on a microsoft forum:

I spoke to someone finally at 1-800-4MY-XBOX who was able to resolve the problem. He sent a me proper password reset and I have since changed the e-mail on the login to a working one. Just keep trying and eventually you can get a regular human on the line to help.

I figure I will try doing this sometime this week and I will be able to reset my email address to something that actually exists. Maybe if I am as lucky as this guy, it will work
