The once bitten challenge is up...fair number of us already have it beat...
New Viper on the Top Gear test track...current time is at:
1:21:345
Lot of room for improvement, closes Tues July 3rd
Voting for the Unicorn reward has the Mine's R32 out front right now, by a pretty sizable margin

I haven't driven the R32 but I know it couldn't be better than the scuderia! I'd go for rx-7 too...but nobody votes for that ever.

Re: June community monthly class
I've got 2 Spirits. If it were possible, I'd gift 1 to one of you, Mark and Viper. Don't know how we'd decide, though, so maybe it's for the best - I'd hate to be the one to choose
I got one in FM3 when I preordered FM4 and said so on Facebook, so that one was imported into FM4. And then I got a second one later (along with a custom-liveried 458 and Joss, I think) in FM4 for the same Facebook promotional thing. The one I got in FM3 has got a rather nice FM4 livery, but both in FM4 are the same dull grey. The 458 looks great.
The unicorns I really want are the BMW, the GT500 and the Evo. Oh, and the NSX-R. I wouldn't mind the R32, though, since I haven't got one.

New Time:
1:19.621
That puts him up to #8 (I think) on the club leaderboard.
Beating me by 13/100ths.

Well, back to work on this one later tonight....knew it wasn't going to be that easy, but it was fun while it lasted.

CRAP!!! I need 5/10's to beat him... Got frustrated last night and stopped! I'll try again later in the week!...
Re: June community monthly class
I still haven't tried the challenge. are you allowed to do more than 1 lap at a time or is it like the top gear hot lap?

Re: June community monthly class
No... and that is the really frustrating part... Cold tires + Viper = fun sliding even with TCS...!!
Re: June community monthly class
I tried to better my time last night, just because I knew the time I had up was't going to be enough. And yeah, like Lou points out, this is very much like the Montoya challenge, the car is wiley. One lap is all you get.

So far that first turn just after the crest is killing me, brake...turn....Turn....TURN!!!....grass, barrier, fence...'damnit'.
I think I'm going to have a look at Frank's replay...I'm unofficially declaring him our resident Viper expert, so gotta be able to pick up some points from his lap.

Re: June community monthly class
Not that I've tried it, have you tried backing up, go te wrong way to heat up the tires?
The thing is, we're all on cold tires. Not like the bounty has some unfair advantage.

Oh yeah, there's nothing unfair about it, and it's 'Stock' too...so there is no 'magic' tune on someones storefront to 'get you there'. It's all about learning to handle the car...that is what (imo) makes these much more fun and rewarding than the more open ones.

I have practically mastered the first turn with the cee'd, but S class is completely different from A class

Re: June community monthly class
The Lap timer starts after the countdown (I think)... It's like a drag start, on a circuit course with a P2P finish... Weird and challenging...
The first turn is OK but you have to pre-brake before you crest the hill or you will go off... you can also use the slide to your advantage and use the throttle to advance in the corner...
I HIGHLY recommend TCS for all those but the more experienced drivers (that have mastered throttle control). The Viper is twitchy (but not as bad as the ZR-1), and cold tires just amplify that fact.... By the time your get to the hammerhead, the tires are warm enough, but don't brake late or you are in the tires...
Marm had a great suggestion that shaved 2 seconds off his time... Watch Mark, Chaos, Frank or Magic replays to see the lines and speeds they take... Remember, they are using the same cars under the same conditions... Make sure you have telemetry up when you watch too, so you can see throttle and brake position.... I'll try again tonight after the series race (if I run)... I gotta watch the replays. I may also run some hot laps with the viper on the TG track just to warm up...

Re: June community monthly class
The launch can get you a few tenths too, I found that if I launched with less throttle/no wheelspin at all, the car had more than enough low end torque to get you up to speed, check out my replay if you dont get what i mean...or race my ghost! Learned this by accidentally stalling on one of my attempts to be chaos' time!
And for the first turn and chicago, you really want to make sure youre riding the lines on the track...idk how to explain it but just make sure you're tire is on that line at the edge of traction and you'll be going through that turn as fast as possible, for me at least! Maybe some people have found faster ways through them.

Re: June community monthly class
I ran it two or three times last night. And on both of 'em, I managed a better start than the others.
I'm not saying I got a good start, but better than the others I was racing.
Here's hoping he doesn't improve his time TOO much.

When I raced your ghost (the 1:21.xxx one), you killed me off the line and had 3-car lengths on me... By the time we hit the finish, I had you by 1.5 seconds.... Then you wnet and beat me by 1 seconds and I gave up LOL... Well... Not right away... I'm struggling to get under 1:20.xxx I think I'm sitting at 1:20.05 or something right now...
Re: June community monthly class
That first ever run was just to get a time in there. I hadn't gone back and wasn't going to go back. Then this bounty came up and it's time to go at it again.
I remember when I first started racing in the hoppers, EVERYBODY always beat me off the line. Now I just don't hold down the throttle anymore and I get better starts. Still not the fastest, but I'm hanging with others now.
These last few 100ths are gonna kill me.
