CSR Wheel is OTW!!
For those of you who were on last night and listening, you will remember that my plan to gain my Wife's approval (for those unmarried folks, this is SOP) to get the Fanatec wheel and pedal set up worked. She asked if she could pick up a new iPad (to replace the one SHE left out in the rain....), and I said yes... Last night I popped the "Do you mind I I get a..." questions, and it worked... Just ordered the wheel and pedal pack plus the stand and shifter kit.... Plan for me to suck worse than I do now, but my fun levels are going to go through the roof!
Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
congrats man! I'm still working on my driving with the wheel...I'm still maybe 5-6 seconds off my controller times but I'm getting the hang driving with it. You definitely need to be a lot smoother with the wheel. VERY little turning is needed to get the car to turn. The only problem I'm really having now is downshifting and heel-toe'ing. The load cell brake means I need to keep a certain pressure on the brake while blipping the throttle and I can't seem to keep constant pressure on the brake. I'm also not as brave as I could be on the controller, I find myself braking much earlier than I would on the controller, again thats because of my downshifting issues.
BUT! aside from allthat the game is definitely more fun with the wheel. I still use my controller to stay competitive in our series races though Until I can master this wheel...

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
So Mark I assume that means you have the Elite pedals then? I'm sizing up a wheel purchase to replace my dying MS wheel. I cant decide if its worth the extra cash for those or not! Looking at the value packs is almost 100 bucks more.

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
The standard CSR wheels have the load cell as well, the difference is the materials used for construction.. the Elite pedals are almost all metal and much heavier. I ordered the stadard CSR value pack + shifters + Stand. Total w/shipping was right around $475.... The stand is a must have for me, and I can fold it up and store it out of site (for my wife's sake).... I picked up the shifters because I have driven a manual for 25 years. I'd like to use the gated shifter on lower class cars and the bump shifter on higher class... I'm just too used to shifting w/ a stick versus flappy paddles, but I will use the paddles (or at least try to)...
Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
Really? on their site it says nothing about the CSR standard pedals having a load cell. That would be a selling point, more metal in the construction is nice too. I also like how the CSR elite's can be connected direct for PC use (for use with say.... rFactor2 or F1 games), but i dont know if this even helps.

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
I was wrong... The Elite pedals have the load cell brake @ $150.... the standard CSR pedals have a potentiameter (sp) brake like the clutch and gas and is rugged plastic instead of aluminium. BUT.... The pedals are still fully adjustable and the inversion kit will work just like the Elites... for the price the std CSR pedals are a good deal for a started set.... Here are some video reviews....

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
Yeah only the Elites have the load cell. The regular ones have the potentiometer like lou said. But I agree its a decent price for a good starting set of pedals. And Converge, yeah I've got the elite pedals. The load cell definitely takes a lot getting used to...I was so used to memorizing my "pedal travel before lockup" on the ms pedals that using the elite pedals, I find myself not slowing down enough at all.
I took the higher end value pack just cause I feel like since the elites are made of metal they'd be sturdier and last longer (i hope!) and it came with the shifter set which I assumed would make the game more involved, and it definitely does. So its more for the "fun factor" than it is trying to be faster. I say if you've got the extra money go for the XL pack, if you're looking for an upgrade but you dont wanna spend the extra money, I'd say the standard value pack is more than worth the money too!

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
Just got confirmation that everything will be shipping today. Assuming UPS ground, it will most likely get here on Thursday (CA to TN). That is just in time to make the racing Thursday night a lot more interesting for me AND especially everyone else!

*Mental note*
When seeing Lou, just park it.
Only god knows where he'll go. And then I'll get blamed again.

LOL.... Better get ahead of me and stay ahead!!! Bad news is that I've got a decent tune for Silverstone and have been running in the 02:12-13 range.... BUT... That is with the controller.... God only knows what will happen with the Fanatec setup... I may not actually use it for Thursday night's races just to protect everyone else!
Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
Here's what I found last week, don't matter what you run by yourself. Of course, it would help if I ran with the proper tune.
That being said, there's a lot of difference when there's somebody beside you or behind you. Another when you chase peopel too. Get to pick up on their lines. Or do what I do and experiment with different lines to get around 'em. Not that I've been that successful in that endeavor.
You could pull a Mark and just race with the controller. Then practice with the wheel until you're comfortable.
And taking a tangent, I haven't really timed myself, but it seems the Lotus was built for this track. With minimal tuning, that car sticks to the road. Too bad I'm not using that car. But I'm still having fun playing with it when I can. That way at least the car up in the garage is somewhat competitive (unlike at Catalunya).

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
When I ran the 2:12, I was on the track with Low, Swiper and a few others.... We were doing 3-lappers Friday night.... BUT... I did get out in front at the start and no one was able to catch me... I agree with you 100% there is a HUGE difference racing alone and at your own pace... As soon as you add traffic, someone crawling up in your rear-view (a la you an me at Sedona), or you trying to play catch-up, you add a whole new dimension of racing....
Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
For the umpteenth time, I didn't touch you. That was all Cash' fault.
And I reread what I said in the previous post. Please don't misconstrue my words as ego (albeit there is some) or me belittling your time (maybe a little - some smack talk perhaps). Just adding some opinion to the conversation.
I'm going to blame it on this head cold and the time change.

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
I didn't take it as a shot (in a bad way).... I'm a so so driver with others around me (at best)... I'm pretty good when alone (as reflected in some of my rivals times), but that's not racing, that's hot lapping... I just need to learn to calm down and focus on my line and my driving. I get too excited when there is traffic and make poor decisions, which causes problems... Of course you didn't hit me in the race last week. It was me driving in the rear-view mirror instead of focusing on my line through the corner. That resulted in me overshooting, tapping the wall and taking out a bystander....
Banter is a big part of the fun for me. I don't get upset when I get spun or hit, but I will give you a hard time if you do. Just realize that it's all in good fun, which is why I play. I will never intentionally hit anyone in a race (this does not include soccer or cat/mouse ), but I will hit people from time to time due to my lack of skill. Please be patient with me and realize that my love taps are definately not out of malice or some deep seated desire to win!

I'm with you. Smack talk is all good here.
Just since we barely know each other, my words could be misinterpreted.
I don't want to come across too whiney (although that may be a little too late).
And hey, if we can better each other, than it's all good ain't it? Although not good enough to beat ourselves...

Marm and biglou are getting to be quite the love birds in this thread. Pretty soon they'll be wrecking everyone together and conspiring for club dominance! This must be stopped!

Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
I have thick skin, so fire away... I am not easily offended and I love a good laugh (even when its me we are laughing at)... Sometimes it's much more fun to blame others (all in good fun again) for your poor driving. This was the case in me blaming you for "air" tapping me... There is no such thing!
For all of the U2SC club, if you ever take issue to anything I say while in the forums, in the lobby, or anywhere else, please send me a message over Xbox or on the forums. I want to know when/if I offend people, which can happen. Like Marm said, we don't really know each other, and may inadvertently say something, make a comment, etc. that rubs one of us the wrong way. In my experience, the best thing to do is not assume anything, address it with that person directly, and act in a mature, non-aggressive manner.
Marm... I'm actually glad we touched on this topic. It's very easy to offend someone or hurt their feelings. The hard part is understanding why, make amends and move on. If we don't know something is offensive to someone, then it will continue to happen.

Low.... I wish we had a "finger" emoticon.... I'd be giving it to you right now....
But you are right... We are conspiring to win dirty and leave everyone in a steaming pile-up....

Yep... That was the closet I could find.... We'll call it the super secret finger from under or "SSFFU"
Re: CSR Wheel is OTW!!
For the good of everyone in the race, I'll be using a controller for the March series I'm not confident I'll stay on the track our out of peoples fenders with the Fanatec yet. But i've been practicing with it in the Cycled production hoppers and I'm getting the hang of it more. Downshifting is still alot slower and less smoother than with a controller but its more fun. I also found controller tunes feel a little weird on the wheel o.o. One day hopefully I'll get the hang of it well enough to race with you guys using a wheel
