NHL 12 Empty NHL 12

Post by joekorn on Tue Dec 18, 2012 8:08 pm

Gamefly had NHL 12 for sale (used obviously) for $10, so I got it. I know Lou has purchased it as well, so if anyone else happens to pick it up let us know. Would be pretty fun to play together online. I have created my self-named and -imaged pro, an imposing 6'6", 225 lb. RW (power forward). He would have a very bright future if only the person controlling him didn't suck so badly, and if he would maybe stay onside more than a few times per game. If he doesn't get his #$%* together soon, word around the locker room is he'll be moving to D...

I've been on the fence on picking this game up. It's going for $30 new at Best Buy.

Guess I've got to pick this up now.

Picked it up today. Along with Red Dead. Cost me $45 after my best buy coupon and taxes.

Guess Forza will take a back seat in the near future.

Nice Marm. I have no idea how the online stuff works, looks like there are about five different modes to choose from. Let me know when you're on, maybe I can learn the finer points of hockey while taking a fierce beating. Red Dead is a great game as well, never cared that much for the online play, but I loved the single player campaign. Like a GTA game but even better, as shooting people from horseback seems a little more sporting.

HA!

Last NHL game I played as 08. And that was either the first or 2nd year with the hit stick, where it became more sim and less arcade. I failed miserably at that. And it's been quite some time. So I dunno.

I just started on Red Dead last night. Driving all over the place for work has me beat when I get home. So I played only 30 minutes of it. Very GTA'ish. And it's what I expected.

So far, so good.

Red Dead Redemption is awesome. Great story. Love the courteous way they speak, John and Bonny in particular. I'm not too crazy about the competitive multiplayer, but Freeroam can be a lot of fun (unless some idiot is constantly shooting you with a sniper rifle from some distant hilltop when you're just trying to clear a hideout) and the co-op Outlaws to the End, too.

Update: I'd like to pick a night where anyone who has NHL 12 or Red Dead Redemption can get together for some multiplayer. Any suggestions for days/times?

I know Marm, Lou and myself have NHL 12, it's pretty fun and challenging, and I think the multiplayer will be a blast. If anyone else wants to pick it up you can find it used in the $10 range. And, of course, it is recommended you use a player you've created yourself. How does Monday nights at 10:00p EST sound?

I've got it and I've had a dude made. That said, I couldn't do Mondays. I'm already locked down for two hours every Tuesday to get through the Dead Space 3 campaign with my buddy from work.

Nice. My guy is a RW, think I can change that if someone else is attached to that position. I'll try to set up a lobby sometime before Sunday to see how it all works. I'll send Lou a message so he knows about it.

It was all Lou's fault. He took too long and put us all to sleep.

In any case, I had a blast. I don't care if we win or lose. Of course, those guys had played 180 games vs 0 for us.

That was fun last night...

For the record, you need to build your guy for each position... You then have 1500 total XP (500 to offensive stats, 500 to defensive stats, 500 to athletic stats) per position (C/LW/RW/D/G) to spend to make each position better. I know this because I was up into the wee hours setting up each position (except goal which the computer will be FAR better at than us). Each position has unique looks (head, gear, etc), but can share name, number, etc. Each can also be unique.

As we play online, we'll gain more XP to apply to our players in each position...

[edit] Sorry about taking so long... I didn't realize you guys were actually waiting on me Very Happy [/edit]

I believe this applies to playing "Be a Pro" on your own as well. My guy was sitting at 67 while you and Joe were at 64. I can only attribute that to have played 17 games in single player regular season.

Although I must say, them was some gaudy uniforms.

I did do quite a bit of "testing" last night, and I'm getting the hang of the controls... It just takes time....

I'm going to try putting in some more time in the next few days. Hopefully I can at least pass to the right people this time. Everyone still up for this Sunday?

I'm in for yelling at Lou again. Smile

As for timing, well, normally I would say anytime. Given last night's debacle with my daughter (she was asleep, then had a bad dream, or something, I dunno), in any case, I didn't get to sit down until 10 PM Est last night. So you name the time. I will do my best to attend.

New job has me by the nuts (I haven't touched a video game all week, I'm starting to shake). I'm hesitant to commit to anything, but like Marm said just throw out a time and I'll see what I can do.

So last night was fun. Joe and I lost a scrimmage 2-0. Then we played a game. Good god the other team was fast. Bright side, we only lost 3-0. So we did better. Or they were that much worse.

I got an email from EA telling me of the game results. Didn't get that last time.
