Steam
Anyone do much on Steam? I have never really explored it much, but they do have several free to play games that are quite popular. I'm generally not too interested in MMO-style games, but would be up for giving Planetside 2, Team Fortress 2 or anything similar a try if anyone else is down. My GT is joekorn, so feel free to add me and let me know if you have any interest.

Re: Steam
Steam is great... We should create a U2SC community there and all join it...
Planetside 2 ROCKS BTW... It's been consuming a lot of my free time as of late... If you play, please play New Conglomerate on the Connery server (that's where I am and the empire I play for..)...
Another one to have fun with is "Gotham City Imposters"... It's a friggin riots.... I've also heard good things about "League of Legends".... I also have Blacklight Retribution, but I have yet to play it.... "DC Universe" is fun as well...
World of Tanks is another that is free to play and pretty good...

Re: Steam
XCOM was a bit hit, as you can see from the JasonMurphy thread of awesomeness.
FTL is lightweight and addictive. If you ever played Nethack you'll find this in the same realm of brutal mercilessness.
Ultimately it's the sales that will get you. Whether you want to or not you are about to buy lots and lots of games.

Joekorn, as in "from the Cayman Islands" joekorn? It's the only hit I get on Steam when I search for that name.

I didn't think that was out yet. Or is there a sequel in the works that I'm thinking of?

Re: Steam
It's basically the best PC digital storefront for videogames. Purchases are account based so if you buy a computer game through STEAM, it's in your library "forever". Everything is downloaded. No discs, no boxes, etc. You can get on another computer, log into STEAM, and then download a game from your library and play it there. If you're a PC gamer, you have STEAM installed.
Others companies have tried to replicate it, or make their own version of it (see EA's "Origin"), but STEAM remains the top dog. It was created by Valve (Half Life, Half Life 2, Portal, etc.), which has Gabe Newell at the helm. It really couldn't be in better hands or run by better people. It is sorta the best thing ever.

I was dreaming of a nice, warm beach when I made my account. So yeah, that's me . I installed Steam a looooong time ago when I bought Half-Life (or maybe 2?), just opened it again a few days ago and was shocked at all the pretty awesome changes since then.

I briefly thought about it as well. Fortunately, seeing so many games included actually scared me away. I can barely keep up with the games I already have, what the hell am I gonna do with 8 more racers

Since you pulled a nerd answer about colors the other day:beefsupreme42 wrote:I'm going to sound like an idiot here... what is steam?
Steam is the technical term for water vapor, the gaseous phase of water, which is formed when water boils. Water vapor cannot be seen, though in common language it is often used to refer to the visible mist of water droplets formed as this water vaporcondenses in the presence of coolerair. Strictly speaking, in terms of the chemistry and physics, true steam is invisible. At lower pressures, such as in the upper atmosphere or at the top of high mountains water boils at a lower temperature than the nominal100 °C (212 °F) at standard temperature and pressure. If heated further it becomes superheated steam. The enthalpy of vaporization is the energy required to turn water into the gaseous form when it increases involume by 1,600 times at standard temperature and pressure; this change in volume can be converted into mechanical work by steam engines and steam turbines. Steam engines played a central role to theIndustrial Revolution and modern steam turbines are used to generateelectricity. If liquid water comes in contact with a very hot substance (such as lava, or molten metal) it can create a steam explosion. Steam explosions have been responsible for many foundry accidents, and may also have been responsible for much of the damage to the plant in theChernobyl accident.

Re: Steam
OK, this is a big step for me, but I am willing to make a (more?) complete fool of myself by giving PlanetSide 2 a try. I have a few conditions though:
1. I will be terrible. Not a condition so much as a statement of fact, but it stays.
2. Marm, Low, Lou and/or at least a couple other U2SC guys must be there. I'm only interested in the social aspect of the game, so this one is non-negotiable.
3. If Nub plays, he is on my team. I have a strong suspicion he may know secret ninja PC-gaming tricks. And I want that on my side.
4. All of these conditions are irrelevant because it's not your job to get me to play a game that you have no real stake in. Just trying to stir up some interest and get more of us together again!
LET'S DO THIS!! WOOOOOOOOO!!! Who's in?
