General FM5 Thread
Sorry if there's already one of these but I thought it'd be helpful if everyone had one place to rant & rave
I'm loving it as are most, but here's my overall take...
Pros
Cons
All in all, the actual driving experience is leaps and bounds beyond my expectations and is absolutely breathtaking. But the structuring & feature setups of the game are holding back it's true potential. They should've left that stuff alone and just worked on the physics/graphics. I will be holding off on any DLC purchases to see what they do but I'm hopeful that we'll see some of this stuff get fixed since even the "marketplace" area of the game still says "coming soon"
I'm loving it as are most, but here's my overall take...
Pros
- Feedback / Feel of the Car in the triggers for brake/throttle (this is a huge plus for me)... I never really liked cockpit view in the past bc I could never quite feel exactly what the car was doing without seeing it (using "chase view") but with the all the new rumbling controller feedback you can really tell exactly how the car is reacting to your inputs
- Graphics are straight tits
- Paint shop - I like all the new specialty paints (matte, camo, wood, etc) and it's nice that they added a bunch of new fonts too
- Integrated Benchmarking - When upgrading/tuning you can see the benchmarking stats live as you adjust things (no more saving setup and backing out to the menu)
Cons
- No club feature - this is absolutely unacceptable!
- Manufacturer affinity - No more earning % discounts on upgrades by increasing manufacturer affinity... instead, the manufacturer will increase the amount of bonus cr you get after each race at each new level of affinity you reach with them (this REALLY worries me, since being able to create tons of crazy setups for little to no cr is what kept me around FM4 so long)
- No $$$ - Like Beef said, cash seems to be much harder to come by (especially since all modifications are full fracking price)
- Free play - They've SUBSTANTIALLY limited the cars available to take for a spin in free race mode (you only have access to a few cars in each class)
- Driver level rewards - Maybe it comes later, but I haven't gotten to pick a free car yet when reaching a new driver level. Instead, it gives you a crummy cr bonus... the biggest bonus I've gotten so far is 15,700 cr!!
All in all, the actual driving experience is leaps and bounds beyond my expectations and is absolutely breathtaking. But the structuring & feature setups of the game are holding back it's true potential. They should've left that stuff alone and just worked on the physics/graphics. Re: General FM5 Thread
The level up rewards were addressed in the 11/15 Week in Review, as was the topic of having to work for credits.
They say it is so "every car matters", and there may be some truth there, but it's more likely that it's "to sell tokens".

Thanks for pointing that article out, I hadn't read that and I suppose I see their point. I just hope the barriers they've put up against amassing a collection of fully customized nasty cars doesn't get too frustrating & stale for me. I felt like there were still lots of cars in FM4 that I wanted but couldn't afford lol

Yeah, somtimes it feels like they changed things they didn't need to change and removed things they shouldn't have and that this iteration is a disappointing failure.

Re: General FM5 Thread
Fraidknot, the marketplace feature you see in game is just going to take you to the DLC area.
Its not going to be an auction house or anything like that.
I am not 100% but I am sure I read that somewhere.

I love the benchmark stats that are listed on the side of the screen that change as you tune your car. It really helped me nail the differential settings for my FWD cars

Re: General FM5 Thread
My major problem with all the changes is that they say it's bc the in-game economy was too disparate in FM4. That painters, tuners, etc had all the money and the average joe couldn't keep up so they needed to equalize everyone's ability to obtain cars/credits... I'm sorry but that sounds like communism to me. Let the free market run. If some jackass wants to pay 10,000,000 cr for a hello-kitty livery on a ferrari, that's his choice. And that's what was so great about FM4. /rant
That being said, the gameplay is so unbelievably visceral and satisfying that words cannot do it justice and I still love the game to death.

Same here - I love the way the late 80's and 90's Italian supercars look - I am currently level 13 with Ferrari because I enjoy driving them so much

So true, in FM4 I was definitely a lambo guy but I just can't get enough of my 458, F40, and GTO nowbeefsupreme42 wrote:Same here - I love the way the late 80's and 90's Italian supercars look - I am currently level 13 with Ferrari because I enjoy driving them so much

Does someone want to take a few pictures for me? I'm dying to see what you can do with photo mode.

I have a couple basic ones of the Vanquish and the MP4-12C:Red Sniper 213 wrote:Does someone want to take a few pictures for me? I'm dying to see what you can do with photo mode.
The angles are very basic and I think I used mainly the stock settings

Re: General FM5 Thread
Goo! Those pics are amazing. With no club feature (I can't even start ranting about that or I might never finish), I'm not in a huge hurry to pick up FM5 or an XBone, but it does look ridiculously nice. Anyone have some in-race pics to share? Maybe use that "XBone, record me shredding the entire grid" feature and post some video??

I still haven't quite figured out how to upload those videos to youtube yet, but hopefully I will eventually figure it out so I can post them here

Using in game DVR?
I record them, edit them in upload studio, and then upload them to my skydrive. From my Skydrive I then download them and upload them to Youtube.
Hopefully someday we'll be able to ram them directly into youtube.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I will be surprised with an Xbox One at Christmas (but I'm not holding my breath)...
I keep hearing that cars are looser in FM5... Is that right?

Re: General FM5 Thread
Hmm, not sure? Cars definitely handle differently in 5 than in 4, or at least some of them do. You see pretty regular rumblings about it in the fm forums.
Tuning is booty backwards -- you'll like that. It's unclear if some of these things were intentional or bugs. Specifically the brake bias is reverse now. Front bias = rear locks up, Rear bias = front locks up. Fun! I can't wait to see what else you would find.
That said, I feel like I'm a better tuner in 5 than in 4. My changes behave more predictably and I'm actually really liking what I'm tuning. Maybe my brain is broken? Maybe they made it easier? Dunno.
EDIT:
Can we turn off the profanity protection thing? I never use the word "booty".

Re: General FM5 Thread
I think the idea that cars are more loose in FM5 is mainly due to the trigger sensitivity - with the stock settings, you will be at full throttle when the trigger is halfway down and I think that most people just don't realize this and blame it on cars being more loose than they used to be.
Also, that profanity protection is really obnoxious...

Re: General FM5 Thread
I took a few pictures this weekend.
This one I feel like I added a bit too much color in
I also think the Miura may have passed the 288 GTO for my favorite car in the game right now - everything about that car is just brilliant
