Updated tuning calc / FMTC
I'm still using FMTC 4.5, which does not include DLC cars. Is anyone else using a better calculator? I have the Forza Tune app on my Kindle, it seems OK, but I'm very skeptical of anything that does not consider the specific car. I'm also hesitant to buy FMTC 4.7 for $5 since I've seen plenty of people who have issues (although user error may be the problem).
Any suggestions? What is everyone using now? I'm willing to buy 4.7 if others have interest.

Re: Updated tuning calc / FMTC
So far, based on this month, I've given up on using a tuning calculator.
It seems that it is awful for lightweight cars.
I have no hard scientific data to prove what I'm doing is right, just going by feel. Aside from gearing, I just move everything to the left (softening up almost everything). Take the car out for a spin and go from there.
I've gotten lazy with tuning with the calc. Just too much hassle. And I think right from the get go, I never liked the way the tunes came out. Didn't fit my driving style?
Since you have a tuning calc, just use that as a good base to start from. After you got that, you take it for a drive and move things around to get the car to behave the way you like. Works better that way. Now you're making the car do what you want it to, rather than the car making you drive a way you don't want.

Re: Updated tuning calc / FMTC
yeah I agree with marm. it only seems to spit out good tunes for some of the less powerful cars. I tried tuning the chrysler crossfire in S class without it and it was pretty bad, but when I used the tuning calculator it made it way worse

I use an app on my Windows phone for mine. Generally they're ok, but I don't know what I'm doing. I also don't feel I'm consistent enough to otherwise "drive and tweak" like y'all do.

Re: Updated tuning calc / FMTC
For you guys that are using FMTC (4.7 is the latest BTW), make SURE you set the ride hight the tune specifies... It's found on a different tab and it makes ALL the difference... If rebound is over 12, then drop Rebound AND bump by 5% at a time until rebound is below 12, but don't touch anything else until you test. I've actually found 4.7 to be quite good...

Re: Updated tuning calc / FMTC
Nice, thanks Lou! I always used FMTC early on in FM4, then got a little annoyed with it and just tuned myself for a long time. Now that I'm adjusting my tuning and driving style (loose cars are waaay faster, I just needed to learn how to use them properly), I've found that I need to go back to using a calc. Forza Tune was OK, but felt I needed to do a lot of adjusting. FMTC 4.5 was pretty good, but had no support for DLC. I'm pretty excited to try 4.7, especially since the Ride Height adjustments have always been kind of a mystery to me. I would always set it as low as possible, then adjust up if I noticed any bottom-out.
By the way, this all started because of you Marm. I thought I had a decent tune on my 997 until you sent yours over, now I want to see what I've been missing.

Lou - do you have the Excel 97-2003 version?
For some reason when I try to open any of the 4.7 files (even the free ones I downloaded), all the headers are missing.

Re: Updated tuning calc / FMTC
Like I said. I winged it when it came time to tune cars for this month. Whether or not I did a good job is up for debate.
I can say that I can't stand understeer. Drives me nuts. So all I do is set out to take it out as much as possible.
I'm going to assume that it's like photography. For each phot
O there are 7 possible combinations. Technically, they're all correct. But which one you choose is up to you. Just like tunes. There are different ways, just finding what you like.
Honestly, I think the hardest part is figuring where to start. For camber and toe, it's almost always the same no matter the car. So that's simple enough
Although I haven't quite figured out caster. Nor do I really want to.
For everything else, start in the middle and drive the car
Address one end of the car first. Once that's good, do the other end. I think you can have a car you like within 7 laps on any track.

Re: Updated tuning calc / FMTC
Has anyone else downloaded this and tried it out? If not, can someone please give it a shot?
I'm still having trouble, it's like all the frozen panes have been wiped out. No headers, but even worse, no formulas or calculations. Is it possible to protect a file so that certain elements won't copy? Or is my comp/software just jacked up? I'm so sad right now, was so close...

Re: Updated tuning calc / FMTC
No, I was referring to the copy of 4.7 that Lou posted in the link above. I hope someone else can get it to work and let me know what I'm doing wrong, I'm having to rebuild my copy of 4.5 with the DLC specs from 4.7. I managed to, um, 'find' the passwords to unlock both copies. Then had to find the hidden spreadsheets and cut /paste the new info, as well as fix the broken references. Only problem is that the data used in the calculations for 4.7 is a little different, so I'm having to wing it a bit. I would just spend the $5 and buy my own copy, but would like to try it out first to make sure it's worth it.

Just had a look.
It's all blank. Just got the borders and colors. No letters or anything on the docs.
